Moving On

Today, June 4th, we are moving on.  We were going to Zion but the road construction over there is causing huge delays so we will avoid it this trip.  It will give us an excuse to come back here.  We aren't sure where we are going today.  We might go to the north rim of the Grand Canyon or over to Page, AZ.  If you don't hear from us for a few days you know why.

I have to say that Bryce Canyon has to be one of the most beautiful places on the face of the Earth.  I hope one day to come back and see it again.  Of all the places I have ever been, nothing has moved me more for its beauty.

The hoodoos, that is what the tall pointy things are called, come in all colors and sizes.  Some people imagine different ones to look like cartoon characters, animals, presidents and so on.  The colors change with the sun and the vantage point.

We have been seeing all kind of birds around the campsite.  There seems to be a larger variety of them here.  They come in all colors.  We heard a turkey clucking nearby last evening.

I am off to the post office to pick up our express mail.  It arrived on time.

We drove to Page AZ.  We finally found a Walmart.  Until you do this you don't realize how valuable
a Walmart can be.  It has everything you need in one convenient place.  We stocked up on things we couldn't get in the wilds of Utah.  We plan to stay here tonight and then move on to the Grand Canyon in the morning.

Our best wishes to all.

We are at 8800 feet.
Photos don't do justice.

Harder rock on top appears white.

Indian legend believes that hoodoos are people frozen in stone by the coyote god.  Better watch out for those pesky coyotes or you might end up being a hoodoo.

They call this one the Aztec Warrior.

They call this one Queen Victoria.  The Queen doesn't know it but her head will soon fall off.  The rock that makes up her head is harder than the sandstone that makes up her waist.  Her waist is getting thinner each year.

Did you ever wonder what happened to the Unknown Comic?
Ok you younger people probably don't remember the Gong show where this guy came out with a bag on his head and billed himself as the Unknown Comic.   He became a regular on the show.  Well, I found him.  He was turned into a hoodoo by the coyote god but not before he was married to his sweetheart  Dust Mop Head.

These signs should be in some language other than English.  Most of the people we meet are from a foreign country.  Few Americans seem to be visiting here.  Maybe it is because school isn't out or they are just broke.  If congress passes Cap and Trade the only people visiting anywhere in the country will be foreigners.

This is where we ended our day.  This is the Glen
Canyon Dam and Lake Powell behind.
