June 6, 2010 Sunday Sermon

At first light I was up.  It was 5:00 AM.  It is cool and still.  As the sun rises over the horizon, the forest comes to life.  A songbird sits on a tree limb singing as loud as his little lungs will allow.  To me it appears he is praising his Creator for all He has provided knowing full well He will care for him this day also.
All living things are in tune with their Father God.  Only man is out of step.  Only man is out of harmony.  Only man has rebelled against his Creator.  Man denies God even when looking at the evidence of His existence.
The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:20-22,  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Professing to be wise, they became fools.
The scripture simply states the condition of man.  Unlike all the rest of creation, we are unthankful denying what is before us.  Man creates vain explanations for the creation to exempt himself from having to answer to the Creator.  For a time the Lord allows man to continue in his foolishness but one day all will give an account.
Some push God out of their minds saying, “We have heard this before.  Where is His judgment?”  The Apostle Peter addressed this very issue 2000 years ago when he wrote the following:
2 Peter 3:3  Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying “Where is the promise of His coming?  For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”  Verse 8-9, But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Man thinks God’s delay in judging man simply means He does not exist.  But God, in His mercy is waiting for the one last soul that will turn from their darkness, repent of their sin and surrender to Him.
Peter goes on to tell us what is about to take place on the earth in verses 10-13.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, both the earth and the works (of man) that are in it will be burned up.  Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will melt with fervent heat?  Nevertheless, we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
We can’t save the planet.  The Bible says it will wax old.  As Peter has stated, it will be renewed.  It will be restored to its former state before man fell to sin and put all creation into a tailspin.  Those who choose Him now will share in this new world.  There will be no place there for sin and rebellion.  All who live there will have willfully laid down their lives for the one who created him.  The Bible says it has not entered into the mind of man the things God has created for us.  As good as it gets on this earth pales in comparison with what the Lord has for us.  It is your choice.   I leave it to you.
