Denali NP

This is our second visit to Denali.  We were hoping to see the mountain this time but it has been heavy overcast since we have gotten to Alaska.  We have given up on seeing it this trip either.  We have done the 11 hour bus trip out through the park and we went tubing on the Nenana also.  So we won't do those things again either.

Tubing the Nenana.  There was much more water in it when we did this.  Runoff has dropped from a month ago.
Our neighbors took the bus yesterday.  They were very disappointed.  It was rainy and foggy all day.  They didn't see any wildlife and the view was so restricted they couldn't see the vastness of the park.  Fortunately, when we took the trip it was a fairly clear day.  We enjoyed it very much.

We are in a campground overlooking the Nenana.  The view keeps us occupied.  Darlie spotted a moose walking up the railroad tracks across from us.  The trains carrying cruise tour people pass by in front of our site.  We sat outside last evening while some of our neighbors entertained us.  You meet some very nice folks traveling this way.  Most campers are not in a rush.  They take time to visit with others.  Bob, the guitar player, gave us a CD to listen too the rest of the trip.  He passes them out everywhere he goes.

It is cold this morning, about 49.  I think this is what the Alaskan summer is like.  It seldom gets out of the 50s or low 60s.  Alaskans think it is wonderful.  There is a one hundred degree change summer to winter.  50 degrees has to feel pretty warm.  We get a kick of how the people pay no attention to the rain.  At home we rush from our car to the store with umbrellas.  Here they just sunder along oblivious to the rain.  Moms are in the parks swinging their kids.  No raincoats or umbrellas to be seen anywhere.

Our evening entertainment.
Today we will travel on down the Parks Highway toward Anchorage.  We will look for adventure along the way.  We don't have any plans for our camp tonight.  We will stop when we see a place that looks interesting.  Both of us are a little disappointed with this trip.  It is so cold and rainy everyday.  Darlie says it is boring because we can't get out and hike.  We hope to go halibut fishing down in Homer.  She is looking forward to that.

We really enjoyed the cruise tour we took up here on our 30th wedding anniversary.  We both agree that is they way to see Alaska.  You hit the best places in a few days and you are gone.  We thought coming up here with more time would be better but it hasn't worked out that way for us.  We spend too much time inside looking out the window.  I think if the weather improved, we would have a different outlook.  But I think this is summer in Alaska.  Like it or leave it.
